Strive For Success, Improve Your Leadership Skills

20 02 2010

Being a leader does not just mean that you have to oversee and supervise a group, to make sure that they are doing their tasks the way they should be done. Leadership is a continuous learning process that has to be mastered if one would like to become an effective leader. Otherwise, you could be the reason that the team would crumble and go individualistic in their work approach instead.

In order to become a master in the art of leadership, there are certain things you need to know.

A person who has good leadership skills does not only give orders to his subordinates. Instead, he or she acts as a good example and has his or her own initiative to get work done. He must also know that he has responsibilities not only for his own actions but also with the actions of his members. According to Mahatma Gandhi, we must become the change we want to see, and that is how a good leader should see himself, too.

Those who have good leadership skills are also wise people. They know how to solve problems and make decisions the right way, which is to weigh all advantages and disadvantages first – even in the most difficult and tough situations. Sound judgment is very important for a leader because it will be the next action that the team will make – if he does things hastily without thinking it over, it could be the reason for the team effort’s failure.

Great leaders are people who are not easily contented with how things are; instead, he or she seeks improvement and learning to enhance the current situation further. Of course, this must not only be applicable to the leader himself, although he or she still has to seek ways to improve his or her leadership skills, but it should also include the team. A good leader would want to see improved team cooperation – he would not want to see just a bunch of people doing jobs their own way – so he finds ways to help improve this.

People with good leadership skills must also be people who have great following skills. Good leaders must also know to follow their members, bond and create a professional relationship with them. Getting to know each of the team members is a good way to understand the whole team, and it helps in assigning the right tasks to the right person. If you tend to act like a dictator, chances are your team members will not be satisfied with your leadership and they may not do their tasks well or, worse, they would all leave the team.

Great leaders are made and not born. It takes time, as well as proper training and education, for a person to acquire good leadership skills and lead his or her team to success. In the end, all the hard work will pay off and remember, too – a good leader knows how to share his or her success with his or her members.

Importance Of Teamwork In Your Business

16 02 2010

Whatever your position in the company is, knowing the importance of teamwork is essential if you want to succeed. We have all heard about the saying that goes, “two heads are better than one”. Yes, you may be doing your daily tasks individually but if one or two of your co-workers slack off and fail to do their jobs, your efforts will be of no use and you will not be able to achieve anything.

Here are some reasons why teamwork should be practiced in businesses, and other settings, instead of going for individual efforts:

First, belonging to a group will remind its members that he or she is merely a part of a whole. If one fails to do the work assigned to him or her, he or she will be blamed for the failure of the whole group. Thus, they will not only tend to do their job for the sake of doing it but because they have made a commitment – which is to do the task assigned to them – in order for the whole group to attain success.

Thus, it is very important that there is commitment in each one of the members for teamwork to work. If one member is not committed to doing a certain task, it could be the reason for the whole group’s collapse. Thus, the member has to be dedicated to his job and his team so that he will attain success not only for his own self but for the whole as well.

When developing teamwork, it is normal that a group would get into conflicts and misunderstandings. After all, we have different personalities that can clash with those of the others. Thus, for a team to achieve success, it is important to find a common understanding or a common ground among the members of the group. An honest and open communication is needed to attain this – and this should become the basis for later tasks. Learning to compromise is also essential in order for the team to work out.

While we all do our best to make all members of the group equal, it is often needed to have someone who can guide the whole team all the way through. Of course, the leader should not only be dictating teamwork, he should also be doing his own job to help the team attain success. He must also not be a dictator type of leader; otherwise, his members could rebel against him. Instead, he should learn to listen to advice and suggestions from his team members and then make a plan out of these ideas.

Teamwork requires for a number of person to act as one. It is not easy to attain this because of different personalities, beliefs and principles but it is necessary if we want to achieve success whether in business or not. If we all learn to perfect this, everybody would also be able to reap the benefits that come out of doing a great job together.

What A Good Customer Service Can Bring To Your Business

10 02 2010

Whether you own an online business or a physical store, having a good customer service can do wonders to your business. If you want to make your old customers come back for more of your services and products, and if you want to attract more new customers, you should invest in a team of people who are well-trained when it comes to answering questions and helping out your customers.

Having a good customer service is like forming a strong relationship with your customers. If your customers are happy because their questions are answered, their needs are given and they are given attention and time by representatives from your store, thus they will keep coming back for more from you. The question now is how do you maintain a good customer service?

First, be sure that you keep your store’s phone lines open. If you have a small business and thus only have one telephone line, this is the only way that your customer can reach you when they do not want to visit your store. Be sure that your staff is well trained to accept calls – they should sound happy and in the mood to talk to the person at the other end of the line. Avoid having answering machines to take your calls because customers hate talking to robots and machines.

Why would your customers call your business in the first place? The main reason would be that they want to inquire about the services and products you offer and the prices that they are offered at. Sometimes, they may also have a complaint about your product or your service so be ready to deal with these things.

The most important part in handling customer complaints well, whether on the phone or in person, is learning to listen to what they have to say. Let the customer talk first before you do, and do not argue with them. If the caller is irate, try to keep him or her calm so that you can understand each other’s points well. Should you receive complaints, just remember to stay calm as well – you cannot always please everybody. Try to resolve the matter in a calm and peaceful manner, without having to shout at each other, and try to come up with a resolution that will benefit both parties.

Just remember that extra courtesy and helpfulness is needed to make a good customer service. Of course, your staff should know your business and your products well – customers hate talking to a person who does not know what he or she is doing and selling.

Truly, a good customer service can do wonders. If you make a good relationship with your customers, they are most likely to come back to your store and buy your products or avail of your services. Having a friendly staff who serves with a genuine smile in their faces is better than any advertising and marketing campaign or any promotional offers when it comes to bringing in new customers.
